How Do We Behave Under Pressure & What is it Doing to Our Teams?

1 min read

A 2023 Pew Research survey of 2,657 U.S. workers with managers demonstrated:

55% of workers rate their manager or supervisor "excellent, or very good" to work for overall. Even stronger, 63% say their boss excels at giving flexibility to balance work and personal life, and 56% say their manager stays calm under pressure.

This shows that three traits: calm, flexible, and open are identified as traits that turn uncertainty into momentum.

Leading teams through transformation isn't about having the perfect playbook. It's about showing up as the steady guide when everything is shifting.

Real transformation tests everything: processes, mindsets, and relationships. The teams that succeed aren't the ones with the flashiest tech, or biggest budget. They are the teams who have leaders who:

Stay calm under pressure so fear doesn't spread.

Give genuine flexibility so people can actually balance their lives with their work.

Stay open to new ideas instead of clinging to "how it has always been done".

Help people to grow, rather than just hitting targets.

When leaders model clarity, empathy, and adaptability, teams don't just "survive" change, but they are empowered to own the change.

It's easier said than done, but well worth the effort for our teams.

What's one leadership move that you are currently learning that has helped your teams to navigate change and uncertainty? Would love to learn together.
