What Do We Signal To Those Around Us?

I have been attacked by geese more than I would like to admit. 🦆
Growing up, we often gave them clever names like "Cobra Chickens" or "Danger Ducks."
The universal message we took away from those encounters? "Don't mess with them."
It made me think about the messages people take away from their encounters with us in the workplace. What are we signaling?
When leaders manage through anger, volatility, or disregard, the impact is quantifiable:
Culture over Cash: Research from the MIT Sloan Management Review shows that a toxic corporate culture is 10.4 times more predictive of employee turnover than compensation.
The Disrespect Factor: Data from the Pew Research Center revealed that 57% of workers who quit their jobs did so primarily because they felt disrespected at work.
Everyone plays a role in how a team performs. The duty of care does not rest on leadership alone—individual accountability matters immensely.
But as leaders, we set the weather.
How do people see us? How do we interact with the people who rely on us to provide a safe environment where they can win?
Let's make tomorrow better than today.
